If you are not the ‘going-out’ type couple or simply feel like spending the valentine’s day indoors with your special one(because going out is too mainstream!), in the comfort of your home, plonked on the couch, you might consider watching one (or more) of the movies from the following list that we have compiled for you to set the valentine’s day mood. Thank us later 😉
1. 50 first dates
” Can I have one last first kiss?”
This one is a cute and light romantic comedy where the lead characters are Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) and Lucy (Drew Barrymore). Henry meets Lucy at a local diner and they hit it off instantly. But Henry is unaware of Lucy’s condition. She has a form of short term memory loss and every night when she sleeps, the slate of her memory is wiped clean. So she doesn’t remember Henry the next day they meet. Henry, however, undeterred, persists in his feelings for Lucy and finds a way around the situation. This movie gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling . It gets even better when watched with your valentine!
2. A lot like love
“Honestly, if you’re not willing to sound stupid you don’t deserve to be in love.”
On a flight from LA to new York, Oliver, the ‘good boy’ meets Emily the ‘bad girl’. They make a connection instantly and end up hooking up in the plane’s lavatory. Soon after though, they discover that they are not really suited to each other. They are, however, reunited time and again over the next seven years, wherein they have some adventures, become close friends and finally, lovers. Again, a laid back, sweet romantic movie suitable to watch on valentine’s day.
3. Endless Love
“My first love was everything all at once. The kind that you never fall back from. Never try to. Never want to. My love’s so big. So strong. It never dies. Never fades. Never loses its electricity.”
This one is a story of a charismatic boy and a beautiful, privileged girl. An instant chemistry is sparked between them when they first meet but their parents are not so happy about their growing closeness. Their parents’ attempts to keep them apart only makes their love more reckless. A passionate movie, it is a good watch for the younger couples out there.
4. Enough said
“-I’m tired of being funny. -Me too”
This story is about a massage therapist, Eva, who meets Albert, who is a nester leading a lonely life. Eva and Albert make a strong connection and begin a beautiful relationship until Eva finds out about Albert’s connection to a client of hers. This movie comically shows the perils of mid-life dating, and is ideal for watching on V-day especially for the more matured/experienced couples out there.
5. One Day
“Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today.”
This movie starts with Emma and Dexter meeting on July 15th, the night of their university graduation. After that, the movie beautifully shows them every year on the anniversary of that date. They grow apart as the years go by. While Dexter quickly becomes successful in life, Emma has to work hard. Their lives then start going in opposite directions with Emma becoming successful and Dexter slowly loses his tryst with luck. They realize that they belong with each other. Though the story has a not-so-happy ending, it is still a good one to watch with your valentine.
6. My sassy girl(Korean)
“Destiny is the bridge you build to the one you love.”
Among Korean movies, this movie has one of the best story lines and on-screen romance/comedy. The movie is about a feisty girl and a somewhat awkward boy with dim prospects who can’t seem to be able to catch a romantic break. This movie keeps you entertained by its unpredictable twists and turns and fresh feel. Warning: Though it has a kind of a happy ending, you might find yourself in tears from time to time..
7. A walk to remember
“Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different. Better.”
A walk to remember is a sweet, sincere love story which speaks of a romance between two 18 year olds. This story is best summarized when the boy tells the girl’s doubtful father: “Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different. Better.” Though it doesn’t have the happiest of ending, it is a love story that inspires.
8. Message in a bottle
“If you like her, if she makes you happy, and if you feel like you know her—then don’t let her go.”
Another classic beauty by Nicholas Sparks, this story revolves around Theresa, a Chicago based writer who finds a bottle which floats ashore. Maggie finds a match in Jamie who is one charming guy working as a pharmaceutical rep. As their relationship evolves, they find themselves under the influence of the most intoxicating drug : “love”
10. The Notebook
“You are, and always have been, my dream”
The story starts with the present day, where an old Noah reads a story to an old Allie from a notebook. As the movie progresses, it shows that Noah is in fact reading the story of how young Noah and Allie met, fell in love, lost each other and then found each other again. Allie does not remember the story because she has the Alzheimer’s disease. Based on the best-selling novel of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Notebook”, this movie shows the depths love can go to.
