There are people in this world who talk about leaving everything behind to seek adventures. And then there is Christopher McCandless. Chris abandons his possessions, gives away his entire $24,000 savings account to charity, leaves behind a promising career as a lawyer and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Rejecting the fake norms of society, he moves out into a journey of the great unknown. To find himself. The inspiring journey revolves around the spiritual encounters which changes him as a person. Being an ardent fan of the movie, I couldn’t resist creating a compilation of the most beautiful quotes from Chris’s journey. They will touch your soul and inspire you to take on new adventures in life.
#1. If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed.
#2. Some people feel like they don’t deserve love. They walk away quietly into empty spaces, trying to close the gaps of the past.
#3. When you forgive, you love. And when you love, God’s light shines upon you.
#4. You are wrong if you think that the joy of life comes principally from human relationships. God’s placed it all around us, it’s in everything, in anything we can experience. People just need to change the way they look at those things.
#5. The core of mans’ spirit comes from new experiences.
#6. I think careers are a 20th century invention and I don’t want one.
#7. I’m going to paraphrase Thoreau here. Rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness… give me truth.
#8. It is easy, when you are young, to believe that what you desire is no less than what you deserve, to assume that if you want something badly enough, it is your God-given right to have it.
#9. I don’t want to know what time it is. I don’t want to know what day it is or where I am. None of that matters.
#10. There is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
#11. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future.
#12. Happiness is only real when shared.
#13. We like companionship, see, but we can’t stand to be around people for very long. So we go get ourselves lost, come back for a while, then get the hell out again.
#14. There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, there is a rapture on the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes. By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but nature more.
